At Powerful Medical, we are building a global life-saving technology. Our CE-certified diagnostics and care coordination platform, PMcardio, utilizes machine learning to analyze ECGs to diagnose cardiovascular diseases, the leading cause of death worldwide. To date, it’s being used by 40,000+ healthcare professionals around the EU, and we’ve screened 500,000+ patients since launching in April 2023. We have established partnerships with renowned global healthcare providers and are backed by leading European and US VCs.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Android Engineer to join our growing team. This role will play a crucial part in developing and enhancing our life-saving mobile applications. You will work in one of the leading engineering teams in our region, closely collaborating with our AI experts, backend engineers, and product team to create seamless, user-friendly, and high-performance mobile applications.
Your role
- We currently have 2 mobile applications written in ReactNative:
- While they share many screens/elements, today, they don’t share a code base.
- Your job will be to architect & rewrite both applications into Android Native with only minor feature changes.
- Ideally, elements that are shared by both would be easily reusable components.
- After we have both apps rewritten into Android Native, you will become the owner of both of them and continue maintaining & adding new features.
- We foresee much bigger development in the PMcardio for Organizations app, with only minor adjustments to the Individual app. If an element used in both apps is updated, we will want to update both to feature this updated element.
- We’re planning to eventually hire a second Android Engineer (once new significant features are conceived & validated with clinical partners). You’d be his lead and be deeply involved in the hiring process.
- Given the processing power within new Android devices, we’re also considering running some AI components locally in the future, due to easier compliance processes.
- We want to use the Android SDK to its full potential (where it makes business sense) – utilizing features such as Google Play In-App Purchases, widgets, etc.
- We’re contemplating creating a patient-oriented version of PMcardio in the future, which would use the Wear OS as an ECG device.
- We’ll also be hiring a Native iOS Engineer for this exact same purpose.
Your profile
- Strong proficiency in Kotlin and Java. Due to the seniority of the role, we expect you to be solid in a few other programming languages. We write our BE in Python & use AWS, experience with that would be a small plus.
- You have a passion for Android engineering and keep up-to-date with the latest possibilities, are an avid Google fan and Google I/O subscriber.
- You understand technology is a tool to create a product which in turn allows us to run a profitable business. Technology is the means, not the business itself.
- You can autonomously judge when it’s enough to light a match-stick vs. when you have to build a flamethrower (when to hack something together vs. when to build an enterprise-grade platform).
- You have strong attention to detail and are bothered by things not looking smooth & streamlined.
- You’ve been around for a few complex releases and you know how to delight Android users.
- Deep understanding of mobile development lifecycle, including app architecture, design, testing and definition of done.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to debug and fix complex issues.
- You understand that great products are built as a team effort.
- Desire to make a meaningful impact on patient outcomes and natural curiosity.
We’re a relatively small team with the HQ in Bratislava (<50 people) and so far, we’re the market leader in AI-powered cardiovascular diagnostics. For example, our AI for Heart Attack diagnosis outperforms the current standard of care by 2x in sensitivity, while retaining a very high (95%+) specificity. With Heart Attacks killing 12m people annually (#1 cause of premature death worldwide), we’re excited to put a significant dent into that statistic – and it’s at arm’s length! We have big ambitions and are looking for similarly ambitious people to join the team.
This job is intended for fighters who want to leave their mark in this world and give it all they have. 100% of your future colleagues are of the same mindset, regardless of how hard the fight gets. If we get the job done right, we’ll be the ones who will have reduced statistics like the 12m Heart Attack deaths by half.
Annual salary: up to $100,000 super-gross (depending on seniority) + equity
