Dr. Robert Herman’s Presentation: Revolutionizing Acute Coronary Occlusion Detection

A highlight for Powerful Medical at ESC Congress 2024 was Dr. Robert Herman’s presentation on the Digital Health Stage. His talk, titled “International Evaluation of an AI-Powered ECG Model Detecting Acute Coronary Occlusion in Myocardial Infarction,” was featured in the “Top Publications in the European Heart Journal – Digital Health” session.

A highlight of the program at the Digital Health Stage was the presentation by our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Robert Herman, titled “International Evaluation of an AI-Powered ECG Model Detecting Acute Coronary Occlusion in Myocardial Infarction”. Featured as part of the “Top Publications in the European Heart Journal – Digital Health” session, this talk was an excellent opportunity to demonstrate how our AI technology advances the detection of acute myocardial infarction beyond traditional diagnostic criteria.

This presentation underscored our successful clinical research collaboration with Cardiovascular Center Aalst, aimed at improving the timely detection of heart attacks right at the first point of patient contact and augmenting the chest pain patient pathway with artificial intelligence. The diagnostic performance of the PMcardio AI model, published in the European Heart Journal – Digital Health, demonstrated outstanding performance with an AUC of 0.938, an accuracy of 90.9%, sensitivity of 80.6%, and specificity of 93.7%.

These results surpass the traditional STEMI criteria and closely match the expertise of seasoned ECG professionals. Already in use in clinical practice, this AI model is enhancing the rapid and accurate detection of acute coronary occlusions, leading to better patient outcomes and more efficient patient triage.

Dr. Anthony Demolder’s Presentation: Addressing the Heart Failure Crisis

Another key highlight of the program was Dr. Anthony Demolder’s presentation on our groundbreaking research titled “A smartphone-based AI model to detect left ventricular systolic dysfunction on 12-lead ECG.” This study was presented during the “Advances In Science” session on the Digital Health Stage.

Dr. Demolder emphasized the pressing issue of heart failure, which affects millions worldwide and imposes a massive economic burden on healthcare systems. Our PMcardio AI model, capable of detecting reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) with an AUC >0.95 and a sensitivity of 90%, offers a revolutionary approach to early detection. This could dramatically reduce mortality rates and ease financial strains by cutting down on hospitalizations and enabling timely interventions.

Looking Ahead to ESC Congress 2025

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who visited us at our booth in London. The energy and enthusiasm at the ESC Congress 2024 have invigorated us, and we are more committed than ever to advancing the field of cardiology through innovative AI solutions. We’re already looking forward to the next ESC Congress in 2025 in Madrid, where we plan to share even more groundbreaking advancements. See you there!
